Carbonatites and Alkaline Igneous Rocks in Post-Collisional Settings: Storehouses of Rare Earth Elements

چکیده

Abstract The rare earth elements (REE) are critical raw materials for much of modern technology, particularly renewable energy infrastructure and electric vehicles that vital the transition. Many world’s largest REE deposits occur in alkaline rocks carbonatites, which found intracontinental, rift-related settings, also syn- to post-collisional settings. Post-collisional settings host significant deposits, such as those Mianning-Dechang belt China. This paper reviews mineralization alkaline-carbonatite complexes worldwide, order demonstrate some key physical chemical features these deposits. We use three examples, Scotland, Namibia, Turkey, illustrate structure systems. review published geochemical data build up a broad model mineral system complexes. It is evident immiscibility carbonate-rich magmas fluids plays an important part generating with REE, Ba F partitioning into phase. most occurs shallow-level, carbothermal or carbonatite intrusions, but deeper bodies associated alteration zones may have enrichment.

Tectonic implications of Palaeoproterozoic post-collisional, high-K felsic igneous rocks from the Kimberley region of northwestern Australia

Palaeoproterozoic high-K I-type granites, high-level porphyry intrusions, and felsic volcanic rocks of the Whitewater Volcanics dominate the Hooper and Lamboo Complexes in the Kimberley region of northwestern Australia. The granites, porphyries and volcanic rocks are gradational into each other in the field, and they have the same mineralogy, similar major and trace element abundances, and indi...

A new way to map old sutures using deformed alkaline rocks and carbonatites

Using a recent compilation of African alkaline igneous rocks and carbonatites, we show that nearly 90% (28 of 32 occurrences) of nepheline syenite gneisses and deformed carbonatites are concentrated within known or inferred Proterozoic suture zones. Given the wellestablished intracontinental rift setting for these rocks and the likely continental collisional setting for their subsequent deforma...

Magma Composition and Igneous Rocks

Introduction In the following chapters we will find that nearly all of the varied aspects of volcanism are either directly or indirectly controlled by the chemical composition of magma and the rate at which it cools and solidifies. If you are to understand and appreciate subsequent discussions of volcanoes and related volcanic phenomena, it is essential that you have a good grasp of the basic c...

Rare Earth Elements Profile

Definitions and characteristics The rare earth elements (REE) (sometimes referred to as the rare earth metals) are a group of 17 chemically similar metallic elements, including the 15 lanthanides, scandium and yttrium. The lanthanides are elements spanning atomic numbers 57 (lanthanum, La) to 71 (lutetium, Lu) (Table 1). The lanthanides all occur in nature, although promethium, the rarest, only...

X-ray fluorescence analysis of rare earth elements in rocks using low dilution glass beads.

Major and trace elements (Na, Mg, Al, Si, P, K, Ca, Ti, Mn, Fe, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Th and U) in igneous rocks were assayed with fused lithium borate glass beads using X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. Low dilution glass beads, which had a 1:1 sample-to-flux ratio, were prepared for determination of rare earth elements. Complete vitrification of 1:1 mixture required heatin...
